PEOPLE AND PATIENCE

Its been said to me more than once, “It’s easy to live comfortably in Vietnam”. What that entails is you have the luxuries of having every day necessities available when you need it and it comes fast. Where we in America are use to having most solutions and answers at the tip of our fingers via the internet, here there is someone to get it done for you. The amount of service jobs I’ve noticed are plenty with someone to greet you, open the door for you, lock the door for you, bring you to where you need to go, deliver you food, run an errand, you name it there is probably someone that can do this for you and for really cheap. Sure, there are folks like this in America, but that can get expensive and sometimes the cost isn’t worth it for us. Instead I’ll get off my lazy ass and do it myself or weigh out whether or not my time is valuable enough to follow through with the task at hand. Either way, if it were this cheap then why not utilize it. What is the worth of these minial tasks? The awesome thing is you have the opportunity to interact with someone, a precious thing that many of us take for granted nowadays. Don’t get me wrong not everyone here is chatting it up with all of the day’s taxi drivers or making small talk with the lady trying to sell you fruit on the street, but the idea is you can see and talk to them and this is everywhere in Ho Chi Minh. Everyone trying to get their hustle on no matter how small the hustle is. Its still a needed service and someone has got to do it. I definitely respect that. Where little old lady on the street hustles everyday for a small monetary return and in exchange provides social value to society by being in constant interaction with the community.
